        CDBG for Self Help Projects

        The Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) is a grant program that is available to fund publicly owned infrastructure for community based projects.  Funding from this program can be used by municipalities and counties to help themselves.  These municipalities and counties must show a 30% cost savings through donation, volunteer work, etc.

        Examples of eligible projects include:
         
        •    Drainage systems
        •    Water and sewer systems
        •    Recreational activities
        •    Roads and bridges 
        •    Buildings
         
        Program Facts

        CDBG requires that at least 51% of the persons benefitted must be of low and moderate income as determined the U.S. Department Housing and Urban Development.   

        Municipalities and counties are awarded grants based on a competitive process.  The Community Development Block Grant Program (Self Help) provides for a maximum grant amount per project of $100,000.  

        Submission Date

        Assessment forms will be accepted beginning August 17, 2009 for the FY2009 CDBG Self help Program
